LEARNING VISIT AT THE UNIVERSITY OF DAR ES SALAAM DIRECTORATE OF LIBRARY SERVICES

On March 19, 2025, we conducted a Learning Visit to the University of Dar es Salaam Directorate of Library Services as part of our Teachers Professional Development Program. This visit aimed to equip teachers with essential skills in library management. Fifteen teachers from eight public secondary schools across Ilala, Kinondoni, Temeke, Ubungo and Kigamboni Municipals in the Dar es Salaam region had the opportunity to participate in this training.

We received a warm welcome from Prof. Kelefa Mwantimwa, Director of Library Services at the University of Dar es Salaam, along with his team, including Dr. Collins Kimaryo, Head of Readers Services, and other library supervisors. The training provided valuable knowledge on cataloguing and classification systems used in academic libraries, resource acquisition, organization, fostering a reading culture, and overall library management strategies, with practical demonstrations.

We sincerely thank Karimjee Foundation for their continuos support to our course. We also extend our gratitude to the University of Dar es Salaam Directorate of Library Services for hosting us and sharing knowledge, which will significantly enhance the skills and capabilities of our teachers in managing their school libraries.
