KICK OFF MEETING AT BENBELLA SECONDARY SCHOOL

Following the establishment of a strong partnership with the Zanzibar Library Services Board (ZLSB) and an initial visit to Ben Bella Secondary School for Girls, our team returned to Zanzibar for a stakeholder meeting to present the proposed plan for the refurbishment of the school’s library.

The meeting brought together key stakeholders from Mjini District in the Unguja Urban West Region, including ZLSB Planning Officer Ms. Rayha Abdalla, Ben Bella Headmistress Ms. Zainab Mgunda, the District Education Officer, District Engineer, District Contractor, librarians from ZLSB, the school’s parent committee, teachers, and student representatives.

We were also honored to be joined by our partner, the Karimjee Foundation, represented by Ms. Caren Rowland, Executive Officer, who attended the session on behalf of the organization.

The session marked the beginning of the school library refurbishment process, where all stakeholders were actively engaged and taken through the proposed phases of the project from planning to completion. Their input and collaboration reflect a shared commitment to enhancing the learning environment for students.

We sincerely appreciate the support of the Karimjee Foundation, who, in celebrating 200 years of their presence in Tanzania, have chosen to leave a meaningful mark by supporting the refurbishment of a secondary school library in Zanzibar.

This effort demonstrates the power of partnership and a shared belief that vibrant, accessible library spaces are essential to educational development
