COMMEMORATION OF THE AFRICAN CHILD DAY

On this year’s Day of the African Child, we join voices across the continent to honor the courage of the children of Soweto and reaffirm our collective commitment to the rights and wellbeing of every African child.

Students from Chamazi Day Secondary School in Temeke, Dar es Salaam, on behalf of all Reading Club members, extend heartfelt wishes to children everywhere. This day reminds us of the importance of protecting children’s rights, especially the right to quality education in safe and supportive environments.

This year’s theme, “Children’s Rights: Where We Came From, Where We Are, and Where We’re Going,” invites us to reflect on the journey of African education, from a history marked by inequality and limited access to today’s efforts to invest in inclusive, child-friendly learning spaces.

As we look ahead, we remain committed to building a future where every child has the tools, knowledge, and opportunity to thrive. Through access to books, libraries, and a strong reading culture, we continue to support the dream of an empowered and visionary generation.

A child who reads today is shaping a brighter tomorrow.
