BENBELLA GIRLS’ SECONDARY SCHOOL FORMS LIBRARY COMMITTEE TO STRENGTHEN READING CULTURE
Benbella Girls’ Secondary School has set a remarkable example of how communities can come together to create a supportive reading environment. Following the launch of its library, the school officially established a Library Committee comprising six (6) members to oversee the management and development of the library.

The committee is chaired by Dr. Abbas Omar, who also serves as the Secretary General of the Tanzania Librarian Association. It held its inaugural meeting on 26th August 2025, where members discussed the structure of the committee, the responsibilities of each member, and strategies to ensure that both students and teachers fully benefit from the library’s resources.

During the meeting, the six founding members proposed the inclusion of two representatives from the student government. With this addition, the committee now has a total of eight (8) members, reinforcing the importance of student participation in shaping the school’s reading culture.
Establishing this committee marks a significant step in Benbella’s commitment to nurture a sustainable reading culture among young people. It reflects the school’s vision of not only providing access to books but also ensuring that the library remains a dynamic hub for learning, exploration, and academic growth.
