There was excitement and celebration at Dar Es Salaam Girls’ Secondary School as we officially opened the school’s newly renovated library, made possible through the partnership between READ Tanzania and Karimjee Foundation.

The launch brought together education stakeholders, school leaders, teachers, and members of the wider school community, including the Guest of Honour, Hon. Lawrence Mlaki, Mayor of Dar es Salaam City, alongside ward and district education officers and members of the school board.

More than a renovated space, the library has been designed to create a welcoming environment where students can develop a love for reading and access the resources they need to support their learning. The renovation includes new furniture and 662 textbooks and supplementary books, providing students and teachers with greater access to learning materials.

The library will serve 769 students and 47 teachers, creating more opportunities for students to read beyond their classroom lessons, explore new ideas, and build knowledge through books. For teachers, the improved library provides additional resources to support lesson preparation and professional development.
