On 15 May 2024, we had the pleasure to visit the National Library, Tanzania Library Service Board (TLSB) in the Dar Es Salaam Region. The learning visit included 13 teachers and 70 students from seven secondary schools in Dar Es Salaam. The schools were Mugabe, Twiga, Goba, Malamba Mawili, Makumbusho, Kiluvya, and Fahari.
Both teachers and students learned about the management of the Library and how books are carefully preserved and stored. We learned about the various sections within the National Library, including the children’s library section, the primary and secondary school library section, and the university and adult readers section.
At the National Library, anyone can become a member and borrow books only if they have registered as a member and paid the annual fee. It was interesting to learn that even schools can become members of the National Library and enjoy many benefits. The library is stocked with all kinds of books, including fiction and non-fiction, research books, historical books, magazines, and various old journals.
It was an exceptional tour as we learned a lot from the librarians at the National Library. We would like to thank Dr. Rehema Ndumbaro the Acting Director of the National Library (TLSB), Ms. Mwajuma Mchomvu Head of the Children’s, Primary, and Secondary Library Section, Mr. Amir Ali The librarian and the entire management for their warm welcome.
