LIBRARY LAUNCHING AT BENBELLA GIRLS SECONDARY SCHOOL IN ZANZIBAR
Benbella Girls’ Secondary School, located in Mjini Magharibi District of Zanzibar, has gained a new center of knowledge following the official launch of its newly renovated library. The renovation was made possible through the efforts of READ Tanzania, in collaboration with long-standing partners Karimjee Foundation.

The upgraded library now features new furniture, 458 textbooks and supplementary books, and three computers, a major step towards improving the learning environment for students.

The launch ceremony brought together key education stakeholders, including the Guest of Honor, Ms. Asya Idd Issa, Director of Secondary Education from the Ministry of Education and Vocational Training Zanzibar. Also in attendance were representatives from Zanzibar Library Services Board (ZLSB), the Director of Karimjee Foundation, the District Education Officer of Mjini Magharibi, teachers from neighboring schools, Benbella teachers, students, and other education stakeholders.

We recognize and deeply appreciate the contribution of our long-term partners, Karimjee Foundation, who, in commemorating 200 years of their presence in Tanzania, chose to leave a lasting legacy by supporting the renovation of this library.

Special thanks also go to Zanzibar Library Services Board (ZLSB) and teachers of Benbella Girls’ Secondary School for their dedicated oversight throughout the renovation process, from start to completion. The library has now been officially handed over and is ready to serve more than 1,030 students and 48 teachers.
